Weekend fun

We had a rough week with the kittens. Unfortunately, we feel like bad parents because we are keeping them locked up in their little room during the work day, as we feel like they'll still get into trouble in the rest of the house. They want to go by the TV and chew the wires there, which is so irritating!

On Tuesday, our webcam in the cats' room fell down and Craig knew something was wrong. I went home from work early and found that one of them must have jumped onto the very tall dresser from a perch and knocked over the lamp, webcam, and the raspberry pi computer that operates the webcam. A copper wire was viewed as a toy and I found part of it tucked away, near the couch. We didn't find another part until later that night and we still think one of them ate about two inches. Cats are such trouble makers sometimes!

When we do let them out to play on the weekends and weeknights, they have so much fun exploring. Here are some pictures from this weekend.

Pema playing underneath the recliner (and Craig's feet).

Shiva looking gorgeous in the sun.

All three together in the sun.

Shiva's favorite ball, which he has mastered carrying in his mouth. This keeps him busy for hours, which is great because it also keeps him away from the TV.

Playing by the TV. Craig was watching a hilarious episode of South Park.

Laundry basket fun

Like most cats, our kittens love playing with everyday objects more than with their actual cat toys. They recently enjoyed playing in and around one our laundry baskets.

Tanzi + winter sunshine

Tanzi, enjoying the winter sun recently.

My kitties "work out"

Like their mother, the boys have taken a liking to my hand weights. They play by them and place items underneath to chase and fight over.

Patches

My mom, dad and I visited my Aunt in her new "home" in Port Washington today and met her cat, Patches, again. The last time I saw Patches, she was just a feisty kitty, much like our boys are now. Now she's a shy, slower 8 year old cat, but still very loving and fun to be with. I know it sounds weird, but I love meeting other people's cats!

Like our cats, she loves her "dead mouse/rat" toy.

Check out Patches' tail! I guess that's what everyone comments on when they meet her.

My Aunt gave me this cat lactose-free milk for the boys to try. I had never seen this product before. I'm interested to see if our cats like it.

Shiva (the shy, cuddly kitten)

Shiva is definitely my little cuddle buddy. I find he tends to want to sit at the end of my lap, whereas Pema loves to sit as close as possible to my face or on it, like he did today.

I will really miss cuddling with my buddies, once I have to go back to work on Wednesday, after 11 total days off!

Kitten paws are the cutest.

Week of December 30th-January 2, 2014

Both kitties like to lay close to my face. Pema snuggled up on my arm like this on his own.

Pema is obsessed with Tanzi. Here, he is approaching him, ready to fight. He was chasing his own tail though, so it didn't quite turn into a fight.

Pema loves going on top of the humidifier and seems to always turn on the night light on it. (Note Craig's CD pile also a huge mess because of the kittens).

Like Karma, Shiva's favorite toy is the headless furry "animal" and he hunts it nearly every day.

Not the best picture, but here's Shiva again with his furry toy. I wanted to capture that he likes to go underneath the blanket when it's hanging on the floor. That sometimes means he sits on my slippers and tickles my legs when the blanket is on my lap. I don't mind though.

Welcome!

I'm starting this cat blog to document the lives of our three cats, Tanzi, Pema and Shiva. Tanzi is almost 8 years old and the kittens, Pema and Shiva, are almost five months old!

My husband Craig originally adopted Tanzi and his brother Karma in 2006. We lost Karma in April of 2013 and still miss him every day. Thankfully, the love of new kittens has eased our heartache a little bit. We adopted Pema and Shiva from the Wisconsin Humane Society at the end of November of 2013.

The blog name was inspired by my favorite poster about cats, Katzenmanifest, which I had first spotted in a store in Berlin, Germany on our honeymoon. It documents the typical life of a cat, including sleeping, eating, hunting, yawning and being arrogant!

Thanks for following along in their adventures!
